The Gokyo region is famous for its beautiful high altitude lakes and a trek in this region also gives you the chance to view Mount Everest in situ with the impressive range of mountains surrounding it. Trails in this region wind, climb and descend their way through lush low land pastures, alpine forests, Buddhist monasteries and Sherpa villages that have been unchanged by time. You have the chance to explore the lifestyle of the Himalayan people, their religion, customs and traditions. The area is also a heaven for animal and bird life as well as stunning wild flowers and pristine alpine wilderness that will leave your awestruck and seemingly diminished by the size of the mountains and spaces.
The village of Gokyo sits on the shores of a perfectly calm and clear lake that reflects the snow capped peaks including Mount Everest in its chilly glossy waters. In the area there are also a number of challenging passes and glaciers to cross making this trek a rewarding yet challenging experience for trekkers. It can also incorporate the route to Everest Base camp and Kalapatter to make the complete Everest Khumbu Region trek.
